“Why did dinosaurs disappear?” “How did dinosaur fossils form?” On the morning of July 10, at the Science Popularization Lecture of the 10th China (Hunan) International Mineral & Gem Expo (CMGE), the lecturer asked questions on the stage, and the audience enthusiastically raised their hands to answer.
“Most herbivorous dinosaurs ate grass on the ground. Brachiosaurus was able to eat leaves that other dinosaurs couldn’t reach because of its large size, so it got bigger and bigger and its neck got longer and longer.” Yan Zuolin, a child sitting in the front row, was the first to get the chance to answer the question and won a small gift - a dinosaur fossil specimen.
This CMGE has launched Science Popularization Tour and such activities on the theme of Explore the Earth as Darwin Experiment Station and Simulation Space Station.
During the Science Popularization Tour, visitors can not only learn scientific knowledge by watching science videos and observing fossil specimens, but also experience VR technology, go to the simulated space station to explore the moon and try to restore the fake trilobite fossils.
“I think this science study is very meaningful, which can make more people understand mineral crystals, dinosaur fossils and other science knowledge. It can also enhance our awareness of protecting natural resources,” said Liu Lei, a teacher of a fifth-grade class of Chenzhou Dongfengwan Primary School.
Learning that there would be science lectures every day during this CMGE, the school connected with the organizer in advance. It aimed to stimulate students’ interest in natural science and expand their understanding of natural resources. A total of 24 students from the class signed up for the science study at this CMGE.
